The Astra family covers a wide engine range. On the petrol side the 1.4 (Z14XEP, A14XER), 1.6 (Z16XER and later the 1.4 Turbo, 1.6 Turbo) and 1.8 (Z18XER) stand out; on the diesel side the 1.3 CDTi, 1.7 CDTi and 1.6 CDTi units are common. On chain-driven petrol engines the chain noise and tensioner condition are checked at every service.
